About John Paul
Innovation grounded in operational reality
A C-suite operator turned intrapreneur, I’m trusted for leading the development of international media assets and driving the monetization of disruptive technologies.
With over a decade as Managing Director of Emerging Business at Liberty Global (through to 2025), I’ve built a board-level career scaling mid-cap B2C media businesses and products across four continents. My work has consistently delivered early-stage impact across content distribution, advanced advertising, consumer data, AI-powered media networks, home security, and eHealth.
Notably, I grew Liberty Global’s European Advanced Advertising and Data business to $250 million in revenue by 2020. Prior to that, I served as COO of ABC International (Australia Network) and CTO of SBS Australia between 2008 and 2013. Earlier in my career, I architected Liberty Global’s greenfield telco ventures in the Asia-Pacific region, pioneering the company’s digital ISP and interactive media initiatives during the 1990s.
I’ve led two successful IPOs in the media and telco sectors—Australis Media and AUSTAR (ASX)—and founded the boutique infrastructure consultancy Trident Media Partners, which was acquired in 2011. Known for navigating complex industry collaborations, I’ve worked extensively across cable, broadcast, and consumer data landscapes, consistently staying at the forefront of emerging technology.
A pioneer in early digital video, satellite, and microwave distribution, I bring a systems-level perspective shaped by my background as a cyberneticist, with a BSc in Finance and an MSc in Digital Anthropology (Cybernetics). My military roots include service as a US Army Armor officer and an Information Warfare officer in the Royal Australian Navy, where I graduated Dux of the Royal Australian Naval College.
